DALLAS JOHNSON
I believe my soulās calling has always been to be a visual artist. Growing up in a very chaotic environment, I used my vivid imagination to escape and found refuge in drawing (horses and unicorns mostly, of course!) and flipping through magazines just to peruse the photographs and allowing myself to get lost in my own dream landscape of light and shadow. As an animal and nature lover, I had a dream of being a Photographer for National Geographic Magazine, but life had other plans! My mother, ever the pragmatist, mapped out a future for me as a veterinarian. Meanwhile, the āstarving artistā myth loomed large enough to make me question my creative cravings. But, hereās the twist... Iām already "starving", so, I may as well make art!!š
Iām self-taught, which means my education came from a mix of curiosity, trial and error, and a relentless refusal to give upāeven when my inner critic tries to shoot me down when I start comparing my photography to everyone elseās highlight reel.
My passion is fuelled by curiosity! My mission is to create art with a sense of mood and depth, highlighting the significance of the beauty of hidden details in the subtle drama of the overlooked and ordinary; capturing those fleeting ethereal moments in both nature and the urban world, hoping to invite a moment of stillness, introspection and contemplation.
Claiming my identity as an Photographer and an Artist (with an apparently rare and valuable gift for transforming everyday moments into visionary statements) has been a daunting journey to say the least, breaking free from the constructs of social and parental conditioning and expected 'norms" of today's crazy world. My vision for my art is to inspire others to follow their soul's calling and take that leap of faith into the unknown.
So here I am! - quirks and all: I am an artist, I am a healer, and a believer in the power of beauty to nourish the soul. Unicorns still welcome!š¤
